When Philip meets someone for the first time, he puts on a poker face. He seals himself up in a metaphorical bag and waits for someone to open it. He won't say a word, or make facial expressions until someone breaks it. (It's easier to just make him talk.) If someone does manage to get to him, he'll become attached to them and consider them friends. He has a lot of focus though, so it might be harder than it appears.

GOOFY | FRIENDS
Congrats! You're his friend now! Good job! Philip is now a goofball in your presence! His poker face broken, he's the optimistic friend that people prefer to hand out with. He's carefree and helpful at most times, to be a good friend and a good person around. He tries to be a positive and good influence to those around him. But don't tell him about your issues or your problems, he'll turn away and won't be interested, even trying to change the subject. He'll do the same and stay secretive. For a heart to heart moment with him, wait until he confides first.

More than simple friends but not enough to be considered close, eh? Philip is the type to follow someone until the end of the earth, even if that means sacrificing himself to the titans. He doesn't have doubt in these people, even if they may be secretly evil. He follows like a puppy, acts like a minion, and treats his homies like sempais. Train him well and he can even become a good slave. (He's pretty good at playing fetch, just saying.)

PERVERT | CLOSE FRIENDS
You two have gotten close? Wow! That's great! This is when Philip starts showing his true colours, his perverted side. He nonchalantly throws innuendoes or picks some up from sentences that aren't there at first. He usually keeps it to himself, but when he's comfortable enough, he stops controlling his thoughts and mouth, making him very immature and out of control. Unless his close friends are on the same level of maturity as him, they might find him very annoying.

ASS | BEST FRIENDS
Wow, you can handle his perverted side? What a good person you are! RANKU UP! Philip will now die for you Haha jk, he already is like that with his homies To become a best friend, its like going down a river--if you're at the close friend stage, most likely you're going to be a best friend soon. It's just a matter of time. Best friend isn't much of a step up from being a close friend, only he's more open and swears more. He throws more insulting jokes and is more physical, not afraid to slap or hit his best friends. He likes to be close though, and might become clingy depending on the person. ("LET ME TOUCH YOUR BUTT--" )

Added to his loyalty, he becomes motherly and caring, swooping them in his arms like the world is ending and wants to do everything for them, including chores. He worries constantly (who wouldn't with the threat of titans hanging on the other side of the walls?) and will visit every one of two days to make sure they're fine. He would even arrive at an ungodly hour to make breakfast and clean their house. He stops treating them independently, but if yelled at, he'll correct his ways and give distance. He'll also stop being violent and try to be on his best behaviour at all times.**

Past
Philip was born into a family of four--his parents, his sister, then him. His family have a strict legacy to follow in the footsteps of his elders and get into the military. The males of his family line are to join the Scouting Legion, no exceptions (because its make them brave and cool and macho and all those bullshit man traits), and the females are to join the Military Police, since his family like to make their young work as soon as they can walk, the females somehow excelling (because girls are supposed to be smarter than boys or catch on to stuff faster). (Depending on the amount of members of the family, some don't go into the military, to keep their family line going. For example, Philip's mom isn't in the military, she's a stay-at-home mother, but his dad is in the scouting legion.)

The young of his family weren't like his parents expected. His older sister (of two years) was violent and hotheaded, loving to fight and kick ass, as long as it was for justice. She wanted to be a superhero, and she was glad she was going to be in the military, but she wanted to go into the scouting legion, not the military police. She wanted to wear their cool capes and go out and face the titans one on one, to fight for humanity's right and make a difference.

But her family wouldn't allow it.

Philip, as it turns out, was really good in his titan training from his parents. They taught him everything they could, and he absorbed the information and the training like a sponge. There was one problem though--he was scared of going out to face titans in the scouting legion. He wanted to use his knowledge to help, not to lose easily on a titan. He'd rather stay safe in the walls and create plans to help face the titans.

To them, the solution was obvious. Switch the legacies.
They didn't tell their parents though. They enrolled as trainees at the same time, not speaking a word to their parents about not wanting to join their supposed troops, and passed with high regards. At decision time, they gave each other a long farewell, knowing that there's a possibility of her dying on her first outing, and split. He escaped into the Military Police, and she in the scouting legion. They haven't seen each other ever since (but he swears he can see her fluttering around with her cape.) (Their dad had no choice but to accept their switch. But since his daughter's in the scouting legion and he has to deal with her, he often tries to change her mind, since he can't forcefully make her change groups.)
